i'm just updating this because i have the internet again and to say that life is insane on so many levels. insane-good and insane-bad.

it's hot but summer is ending, i had a bake sale at a street fair, i have animals and a cute apartment with a porch and treestreesTREES everywhere, new friends, parties, camping and barbeques and other stereotypical summer things, an empty bed.

finals week is over.
on the first day, i walk out the door, turn a corner, and a bird shits on me.
on the second day, i almost get hit by a speeding cop car while crossing a crosswalk.
that about sums it up.

at least now i can think back on the semester and all that i accomplished... including harvesting fruit flies in the kitchen sink and watching the entire series of the l word. (yes, i said SERIES.)

look how crazy we get. BUT we had just eaten burritos and i'm drinking a margarita!

now i have one out of two days left at my temporary job, proctoring tests at a law school. after listening to two girls studying together, i learned that secret agents really exist and 'miranda' is not just a girl's name!

...and then i pack for europe. i had a dream i arrived after a sketchy flight with a pilot who had never flown before, and rome turned out to be just a big green field with the colosseum, the roman forum, a few buildings & some people scattered on it. i highly doubt that will be the case.

about an hour on this one? i liked this model a lot, but i did a much better drawing in class today, which we're finishing on monday. then i will show you my last couple figures for the term!

in this painting i am examining the relationship between fluidity and rigidity, softness and hard. NOT REALLY.
in this painting i am rubbing colors around on an itty bitty 10x10" canvas to make it match my bright shirt and then adding some objects that were set up in the classroom. it's not done, but i don't know what to do on the left side now, so here it is.

my new obsession. too bad the scanner cut off one of my favorite windows (a rounded one) on the first one.

i was sketching at the bus stop (those are faces of people walking by), when a british family came up and asked me something about the buses. one of the children dropped all of her pink candies on the ground, which i drew after they got on the bus i didn't need.

a day later, i was waiting at the same bus stop, and noticed that people had drawn (mostly with their feet, presumably) with the chalky candy the girl had dropped.

and one last page of strangers (it was an assignment to draw 10 of them)

i made an autobiographical book.

the pages are in order here, which often has significance.

from the first section (top left), which is basically miscellaneous worries/concerns i have:

a couple pages say things like "selfish" in tiny writing. or things like "$0."

this includes san francisco hills, josh's glasses, all the beds i've ever had, & flowers my mom would have around.

(sorry for the crap in the background of the pictures.)

the assignment was basically to buy or find a chair and modify 1/4-1/2 of it, leaving the rest in tact.

i painted the top (and the unseen bottom) and some other little details. i also ripped off most of the original seat cover. then i burnt and added the dangling fabric to two sides. i filled the chair's holes with glue and made some things reminiscent of snot out of string and 2-ton epoxy (also what i coated the sprouting 'tree' in) and placed them where part of the chair was before i sawed it off.

i made a wing.

it's hand-sewn, for a project at school: to make an nontraditional book that documents something.

you can lift some of the big feathers to read about flight (mostly the difficulties of flight).

another detail shot:

i made most of the feathers from different types of paper & materials, but there's also some fabric and leaves included... and one real feather.

the assignment was to use nine plaster pieces made from places on your body to make a set of cohesive "multiples." after some interesting plastering experiences and lots of sanding and some painting, i somehow ended up with this:

i burnished maps on the backs of them.

so art school
the comments in the critique ranged from "feminine" to "creepy" to "chickens."
i wish i had a straight-on picture in the light. i just like the tension and when it rotates between really long nylons filled with very small pieces & super-streched big pieces that couldn't extend as far vertically.

anyway i'm so stressed right now thank god this week is over i've been having serious doubts about being an interior design major for one thing help ah ah ah

i did all of those last night, except for the last one which i did when i first moved here and was freaking out. i put them in my own books (the first one in my big book, the others in my smaller one) instead of the book i have to turn in at the end of the semester. that one is mostly for drawings from life and brainstorming and other boring things, with the occasional page like this:

(i apologize for the poor image quality--i was going to re-take the pictures today in daylight but instead i went to the oceeaaannnn. and i thought i was making them all the same width but i made them all the same height instead but hey that's fine too.)
